Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College (BVM) was established in Vallabh Vidyanagar as a multidimensional experiment in 1948 A.D. Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya (B.V.M.) was the first college in this educational township and the first engineering college in Gujarat. Shri Bhaikaka, Bhikhakaka and their team finalized the project. It was scrutinized and approved by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (First Union Home Minister of free India). Sardar Patel then convinced Late Shri Ghanshyamdasji Birla who donated Rs. 25 lakh in 1948 A.D. While BVM started with 150 admissions in 3 branches in 1948, it is admitting 420 in six branches as in 2001 in full time under graduate programs.

FACTS
Lord Mountbatten, the first British Governor General of independent India performed the opening ceremony of the college on the 14th June 1948 as one if his public engagements prior to his departure from this country. BVM is affiliated with Sardar Patel University at Vallabh Vidyanagar from 1957 A.D. Till June 1958, BVM was providing education for both degree as well as the diploma programs in engineering education. On 1st August 1958, a separate institution called Bhailalbhai and Bhikhabhai Polytechnic was established and the diploma education was shifted there.

|
The BVM auditorium has an excellent sound system and executive environment with the capacity to hold 300 people at a time. The college boasts of a fully equipped Gymnasium. All the basic medical requirements are fulfilled in the University Health Center free of charge for all students.
